DBE News and Reviews Episode 36

by on Sep.28, 2009, under Uncategorized

We are finally back with another episode. This time it was Dexy’s computer that was slowing us down. He had to rescue his music collection (including the tunes for this episode) from his failed hard drive.

But, if you give this one a listen you won’t be disappointed. We have lots of news and lots of tunes ready for you.

This episode features news about Sub Focus, Neosignal, Redco, Alley Kat/Kokeshi, Alix Perez, Digital Soundboy/DJ Fresh, and NC17.

We also feature tunes from Matrix, Commix, Rufige Kru, Big Bud, Drumsound and Bassline Smith, and more.

At the end we talk about Toronto, including the Toronto Drum and Bass Awards, Freakout, the Stride Recordings Debut Release Party, and more!

Toronto Dnb Awards 2k9 Nomination

by on Sep.21, 2009, under Uncategorized

The Toronto Drum and Bass Awards was a fresh idea started last year to recognize the who’s who of the Toronto drum and bass scene. With so many talented musicians and artists calling Toronto home, I’m sure it was no easy to task to narrow down the field of nominees or even select the winners.
Well, after the success of last year’s awards, they are back again this year for round #2.
And just like last year, I’ve been nominated for Best Female DJ.
So, if you like my music, why not give me your vote. While your at it, you can also vote for your favourite promoters, venue, event, producers, MCs, and more.

And if you are in Toronto, come on out for the award ceremony on Thanksgiving weekend!
Congrats to everyone who was nominated!

Playing at Tribe.ca BBQ on Sunday

by on Sep.14, 2009, under Uncategorized

I have the honour of playing alongide some super talented Toronto DJs at the

11th Annual TRIBE BBQ (TBQ) – the 6th on the Island

Sunday, September 20
Site 105, Hanlan’s Point, Toronto Islands

A fine selection of beats from the board:

Jelo
Don Berns (Dr. Trance)
Freakout!
tobywan
Kris Hernandez (khemistry)
DJ Red Turtle
jocelyn dee
Wiseman

This year, have a new site!!! It’s right next to the old site. The new site has lots of shade trees which are perfectly spaced for hammocks. The grass is incredibly nice and fluffy.

2009 GROUP PHOTO AT 5PM!

If you want, come at noon and join us for breakfast to start the day – eggs, bacon, toasts!

What to bring:
- yer own meat or veg if you are a non-meat person
- other stuff to grill
- sunscreen
- swimsuit (or not)
- bug propellant
- nice big blanket
- yer kids or friendly dog if you have kids or friendly dog
- jacket and hoodie (it can get crisp on the islands in the evening)
- beverages and ice
IMPORTANT: bring your own re-usable (opaque) plastic glasses, plates, cups, and your own cutlery.
As part of the City’s plan to reduce waste disposal on the island, it is best if we try to bring re-useables instead of recyclables

- frisbees and other throwable objects
- your bikes! explore the islands by bike while you are at the TBQ

The site is just a short walk from the Hanlan’s Point ferry docks so you won’t have to shlep your stuff very far. See the map below.
There are volleyball nets, blue flag swimming beaches, the nude beach nearby, as well as washrooms handy to the site.
Our new site is stunning: lots of beautiful old shade trees but sunny where you need it. Lots of excellent frisbee tossing space.

REMEMBER TO TAKE THE HANLAN’S POINT FERRY!
